EuroBirdNet
info

Latest update: November 30, 2010.

To the Holarctic List, ver.2 (updated Jan 10, 2010)

This list will soon be replaced with version 3, around 10 December 2010,
on the Taxonomy Committee web page,
and this list ver. 2 will be closed down.

EBN is a network covering a number of European countries, started already in 1990. That was in the days of Earn and Bitnet, before Internet existed ! See the History Page.
The aim is to report rare bird sightings, invasions, and migration. It's also open for discussions on identification, systematics, requests for hotspots & accomodation, travel reports etc.
Some participating countries have coordinators. These collects national bird reports and sends them out on the net, often as weekly or monthly reports.

New EuroBirdNet mail list 2005:

EBN is run via a mailman server from 4 April 2005, maintained by BirdLife Finland.
(1990-2005 EBN was run on a Listserv administrated by Martin Helin. 15 years ! Beat that if you can.)

You subscribe by sending an e-mail with "Subscribe" in the subject or body to: e-mail

Unsubscribe; Send an e-mail with "Unsubscribe" to the same address.

If you need instructions, send e-mail with "Help" to the same address.

EBN has around 1100 members, the direct address is not stated here to avoid spamming.

Coordinators (and report compilators):

Since several countries have jumped off and back on again during the years I have deleted the list of country coordinators.
The main contributors were the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Portugal , France and some more. No records compilations occur any more, since around 2005 there are new ways of finding this information. Most countries now only keep local maillists, like UK, Germany, Sweden and Norway, which I think is sad. There are also other lists popping up and then dying off. But EBN is THE pioneer European list, started already 1990.
