Olle Anderbrant, PhD, Professor
Born 1956 in Tärnaby, Sweden. Basic training in natural sciences and mathematics at Lund University 1975-1979. PhD 1988 in Animal Ecology (thesis: "Reproduction and competition in the bark beetle Ips typographus"). Appointed Docent at Lund University in 1992, and Professor of chemical ecology in 2003. Has worked on several aspects of bark beetle biology, e.g. development and spread of infestastions in aggressive species and ecology of the Dutch elm disease vectors, Scolytus spp. Started in 1988 work on chemical communication of pine sawflies (Diprionidae), including basic aspects of pheromone production, perception and released behaviour as well as development of pheromone-based monitoring and population control. Current projects also include development of semiochemical-based methods for monitoring and control of stored product pest insects (mainly pyralid moths), chemical ecology of the carrot psyllid (Trioza apicalis) and the birch sawfly, Arge pullata. A recent collaborative project deals with chemical ecology in the evolution of social behaviour and nest parasitism in Australian Acacia thrips. Has published about 80 scientific articles and book chapters. Involved in teaching at all levels and in administration, currently as deputy head of the Department of Ecology and head of the Chemical Ecology and Ecotoxicology section.
